Carlo Vismara’s Monolith series confronts the primordial dialogue between geological mass and dynamic human torque. Travertine, formed through millennia of thermal subterranean springs in central Italy, is interrupted by lost-wax bronze poured at 1,180°C.

400 Hours of Cire Perdue Pouring

Each fluid bronze helix is modeled initially in natural microcrystalline wax, coated in fine ceramic slurry, and incinerated. The bronze alloy contains 88% pure copper and 12% tin, preserving the tactile chisel incisions made into the original wax armature.

Sourced from the historic Barco quarry used in imperial antiquity. Boulders are detached using hydraulic wedge splitting rather than mechanical diamond saws, retaining the jagged organic fracture lines that contrast with the burnished metal skin.
