Carlo Vismara’s Monolith series confronts the primordial dialogue between geological mass and dynamic human torque. Travertine, formed through millennia of thermal subterranean springs in central Italy, is interrupted by lost-wax bronze poured at 1,180°C.
400 Hours of Cire Perdue Pouring
Each fluid bronze helix is modeled initially in natural microcrystalline wax, coated in fine ceramic slurry, and incinerated. The bronze alloy contains 88% pure copper and 12% tin, preserving the tactile chisel incisions made into the original wax armature.
Hand-Split Roman Lithos
Sourced from the historic Barco quarry used in imperial antiquity. Boulders are detached using hydraulic wedge splitting rather than mechanical diamond saws, retaining the jagged organic fracture lines that contrast with the burnished metal skin.
100-Year Structural Integrity
Every cast undergoes ultrasonic flaw detection to ensure homogenous structural density. The microcrystalline Renaissance wax seal shields the interior metal from airborne sulfates, certified for permanent indoor installation or covered terrace presentation.
Commission a Site-Specific Monumental Iteration
Maison d’Art collaborates alongside international architecture studios and private patrons to realize bespoke scale adaptations up to 4.5 meters in height. Structural engineering, cantilevering calculations, seismic tie-ins, and local quarry selection are handled directly by the Vismara studio atelier.
